Why You Should Get Your Holiday Shopping Done Sooner Rather Than Later

Interning at Regan Communications Group taught me preparation is key. Whether you’re managing a client’s social media platforms, planning a special event or drafting a press release, it’s always better to be a step ahead. I manage my time well in the office, but once every year I practice crisis management techniques I’ve learned in school. That time is the holiday season.

Don’t get me wrong – Christmas is the best season, but also the most chaotic for me. Between planning family get-togethers, organizing Christmas brunch and studying for finals, I always end up buying half-decent gifts at the last minute. Since Thanksgiving is so late this year, which means last minute shoppers, like myself, will be even more crunched for time. This year I’ve set a strict deadline: I’m aiming to have all of my Christmas shopping done by Thanksgiving.

Present Preparation

I’m not sure which part of Christmas is more stressful – finding the perfect gift at the last minute or checking my bank account after I find the perfect gift. Financially, it’s much easier to purchase in advance. For example, spending $50 over a few weeks is a lot less scary to work with than $250 at once. Planning in advance will also make you think about what that person wants rather than grabbing another generic gift.

Best Selection at the Best Prices

Once you do figure out the best present, go buy it! Although we all want to get a great deal, often the deals and promotions happen pretty far in advance. The malls won’t be as crowded, so you’ll be able to compare features, quality and colors the different brands offer with their respective prices. Closer to Christmas, consumers tend to panic and pay full price to get that one item, or not get the one they really want.

May your Christmas be Merry and Bright… and Relaxing!

The holiday season is such an exciting and joyful time of the year, but not when you’re running around the mall scrambling to find a gift. Once the Christmas shopping is checked off your list, you can actually enjoy the fun parts of the holiday like Santa Saturday or Holiday Pet Photo shoots at area Simon malls! Most mall events are free, family-friendly ways to get into the holiday spirit.
