Creating and maintaining a social media presence for your brand can be extremely beneficial, but it can also be tedious and time-consuming. With how quickly content on social media is moving, it can be difficult to keep up. For example, I follow 987 users on Twitter from my personal account; I opened up TweetDeck and at least one new tweet populated in my dashboard every 15 seconds. I don’t even follow 1K users! Yikes!

It’s almost mind-boggling, right? And that’s just the surface – keeping your social media accounts up to date can be a daunting task. But, to help alleviate some of the stress, we have a few tips on how you can clean up your social media in just a few steps (well…three, to be exact).

1. Maintain consistency. This is key. An easy way to start is by taking a look at all of your accounts. Are all of your profile images the same? Does your cover/header photo align with your brand? Is it sized appropriately for each social channel? Make sure that your presence is aesthetically pleasing by maintaining consistency across channels.

2. Determine your cadence. How often will you be posting on each channel? Have a plan before you dive in. Perhaps you plan to tweet 5 times per week, share a Facebook post 3 times per week, and post a photo on Instagram 4 times per week. While these numbers can be fluid (think live-tweeting at an event, etc.), it’s helpful to know how often you plan to post in advance.

3. Sift through the accounts you’re following. This might almost sound silly, but it’s like digital spring-cleaning. Connect with your target audience by following them on social media. Sifting through the accounts you’re already following will help you discover if you’re following the right people/brands/partners/etc. or not. For example, your brand might be following 500 accounts on Twitter, but many of them could now be defunct, tweeting about irrelevant topics, so on and so forth.
