What we can take away from the “Season of Giving”

As the holiday season draws to a close many of us are admittedly exhausted. After months of shopping, parties, preparation and wrapping, the whole season can seem a bit overwhelming and often far too materialistic. Luckily, at Regan, we were able get a firsthand look at what the true meaning of the season is through the eyes of some of our consumer clients.

Our client Simon Malls undoubtedly exemplified holiday spirit. Although malls are often considered the epitome of materialism around the holidays, Simon proved that sentiment wrong. In the midst of their busiest time of year, Simon Malls across New England took the time to host two amazing events that reminded everyone that the holidays are about giving back and spreading joy and love to those who need it most.

After Lorelei MacKay (black jacket) of Wakefield, MA was surprised with her giftcard at Square One Mall’s Spread Love event, she immediately spread the love and shared her second giftcard with shopper Patricia Cotty (blue jacket) of Wakefield, MA.

The first event, “Caring Santa”, was a morning dedicated to providing families a subdued and welcoming environment for children with special needs to visit with Santa. Many steps were taken to reduce sensory triggers, creating a more comforting environment for the children’s magical visit with Santa. The families in attendance were incredibly touched at the thought that went into making the event such a success. Simon’s second event titled “Spread Love” further demonstrated their dedication to giving back. The malls were spreading cheer and the giving spirit by surprising lucky shoppers with two gift cards, one to keep and one to share with a fellow shopper. The Simon gift cards were distributed at random by the mall management teams and the response was overwhelming gratitude and joy. It was heartwarming to see how many people truly helped to #spreadlove.

Simon was not the only Regan client to remind us what the holiday season is all about. FELD Entertainment offered patients at the Franciscan Hospital for Children a number of tickets to Disney on Ice at Agganis Arena. Meanwhile, New Balance, in partnership with Susan G. Komen, made some incredible donations to the cause in honor of the holiday season.

This holiday season we endured headaches, shopping and the craziness that comes along with every December, but we were also able to take away comfort and delight in knowing that no amount of consumerism can ever destroy the true meaning of the holidays.
