Every August it seems that everyone on Cape Cod can only focus on one event, the New Balance Falmouth Road Race. The seven-mile road race held on a Sunday every August has been captivating runners, spectators and sports enthusiasts alike for over 40 years, so it is no surprise that when the social media era dawned, it also became a hub for many tweets, Instagrams and Facebook posts. This year, New Balance decided to tap into the social media frenzy during the Falmouth Road Race with a friendly and social competition between two age old rivals. Team Boston and Team New York were born in the spring and made up of influential personalities from each city. These runners used their influence on social media to help drive attention towards the race and most importantly, their team. The designated competition hashtag was #NBBOSvsNY and runners were encouraged to include in every social post they shared about their training or the big day itself… and the race was on, literally!
Team Boston was comprised of Susan Tran of WHDH-TV Ch. 7, Tom O’Keefe of BostonTweet, Sarah Dussault of Sarah Fit and Alex Weaver/Chase Garbarino of BostInno. While Team New York may have had a better time overall, Team Boston came up with some stellar social shares capturing the essence of this New England race! The social impressions from both teams were both inspiring and easy to follow – we could feel like we were running right along with the team from training all the way to the finish. Congratulations, runners! Falmouth…we’ll see you next August – you can count on it!
