Summer in Southeastern Connecticut

Blues, Brews and More Make Summer Fun in Southeastern Connecticut!

Memorial Day Weekend is just a few short weeks away and it’s got us thinking about summer! We are so spoiled here on the shoreline of southeastern Connecticut, known locally as “Mystic Country.” Connecticut has just launched its new tourism website, which prominently features our region because of the abundance of visitor attractions, restaurants, shopping and accommodations. Explore CTVisit.com/MysticCountry.

Here are some of the things happening just 100 miles south of Boston:

The CT Sub Trail fleet is ready for painting!

Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton is celebrating its 100th anniversary on June 21st and Connecticut is proud to celebrate this special birthday with Connecticut’s Submarine Century! From concerts and speaker series to golf tournaments and the 4th of July Parade, there are many Submarine Century events planned throughout the summer in Southeastern Connecticut and beyond.

Visit ctsubmarinecentury.com to see the full calendar.

One of the most unique art exhibits this summer is the Connecticut Sub Trail. This public art project will showcase a fleet of 20 fiberglass submarine sculptures designed and painted by regional artists in celebration of the submarine industry. The exhibit will kick off with a special “unveiling of the fleet” at the Groton 4th of July Parade, then the subs will be delivered to sponsored locations throughout Mystic Country. The subs will be on public view and accessible via map and Android/IOS app.

Mystic is the place for music this summer! The free Summer Sounds Concert Series will kick off Tuesday, June 14th with live music from community bands every Tuesday night at the beautiful Mystic River Park. If you’re into blues, the Blue Monday Concert Series starts Monday, July 11th. But the biggest blues event in town will be the Mystic Blues Festival Friday, August 12th– Sunday, August 14that the North Stonington Fairgrounds. Acts are still being lined up but confirmed artists include The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Roomful of Blues, Paul Gabriel and more.
