Friday August 14th was a big day for the City of New London. After an 18 month process, the city was officially designated a Coast Guard City.
A city that makes special efforts to acknowledge the professional work of the Coast Guard men and women assigned to their area can apply for Coast Guard City designation. The City of New London has a long standing history of making the Coast Guard and their families feel at home in their home away from home as home to the United States Coast Guard Academy and Coast Guard Station New London. New London is also the home to the future National Coast Guard Museum, solidifying the City’s relationship with the Coast Guard.
The Q&H team coordinated the design and development of the lengthy written application and then the city had to wait. The application was finally signed by the current Commandant, Admiral Paul Zukunft and then made it through the 90-day waiting period of Congress without comment. After approximately 18 months, New London was the 17th city in the country to earn this esteemed honor.
The official ceremony was topped off by the unrolling of a two-story banner on the city parking garage – designed and implemented by the Q&H team.
As we prepare to move into our new building in the center of New London, we are proud to be a part of this momentous occasion that will brand the City of New London now and in the future.
