Picture Perfect PR Starts with Perfect Pictures



Photography has always been an integral component of public relations, but with the advent of social media, photos – good photos – are increasingly playing an important role in PR and marketing efforts.  Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, websites, multi-media reporting all help increase visibility for your clients and products.  Photos command attention, and they help build a brand.

But what happens when all these factors meld, and the photos – and the photographer – are the product…and the brand?  You can’t miss!

A case in point – legendary Boston photographer Bill Brett, and theBillBrettbook launch of his new book, Boston Irish.

Bill has been photographing Boston’s notable citizens, residents and gala events for over 50 years.  People prize their inclusion in his Party Lines column in the Boston Globe.  And we’ve been lucky enough to work with Bill and our client, Suffolk University, to host two events honoring Bill and his photography books.  In 2011, it was Boston:  Inspirational Women and this year, Boston Irish.

St. Patrick’s Day 2015 was weeks away, but Suffolk University and Regan Communications helped jump-start the festive holiday by hosting a reception in honor of Bill Brett and his latest homage to Beantown notables, Boston Irish, at Suffolk University’s remodeled Tremont Street store on February 25th.

Working with Suffolk University on covering logistics for the event, Team Paula also studied Brett’s latest masterwork to identify photos for exhibit during the reception, worked with Suffolk team and co-author Carol Beggy on compiling a video loop featuring photos from the book that would play throughout the reception, identified key members of Boston’s Irish community to invite to the spirited function – politicians, educators, humanitarians, and news makers included, and updated e-mail and contact lists for invitations.

To capture the inimitable spirit of the Irish, and Brett’s masterful photography, an exhibit featuring several of his iconic black and white shots – “timeless” as Bill calls them – were showcased at the event, while Irish music and lively conversation filled the room. Brett and Beggy were also on hand to sign copies of their book for those in attendance.

Notable guests included Irish Consul General in Boston Breandan O Caollai and his wife, Carmen; Executive Director of the Boston Athletic Association Tom Grilk; Executive Director of Team Impact Duke Little; Suffolk University Board Chairman Drew Meyer and Vice President of Government Affairs John Nucci; Nancy Sterling of ML Strategies; PR Executives Dom Slowey and Connie Hubbell; Harvard’s Ira Jackson; Vivien Li, President of the Boston Harbor Association, WGBH’s Emily Rooney; and Mass Housing’s Tom Lyons, just to name a few!

Faces in the book came alive with guests including comedians Steve Sweeney and Don Gavin; WGBH Radio’s host of Celtic Sojourn Brian O’Donovan; Sister Mary Black; Realtor Kevin Ahearn; Mary Joyce Morris; Peggy Nucci; PR guru George Regan and more.

Team Paula staffed the event and helped coordinate media coverage, including interviews for Brett and Beggy with native Bostonian and late night talk show h6ost, Bianca de la Garza.  Bianca and her crew taped a segment for the St. Patrick’s Day episode of her new show, BIANCA UNANCHORED.

The reception and book signing event was a huge success, for both Bill Brett and client Suffolk University!  At this event Irish eyes were definitely smiling, and reading!  And, of course, the pictures from the event were priceless!
