New Year’s Resolutions: Eat Well and Give Back

While many of our New Year’s resolutions may focus on eating healthier or going to the gym, resolving to give back to the community or increase your charitable giving can (and should) be at the top of your list, too! One of the most anticipated culinary events of 2016, the 11th annual CityFeast event held in Boston’s North End, gets you the best of both worlds! Enjoy a fabulous night out on the town with a special five-course dinner with wine pairings at one of the North End’s most popular restaurants, while raising awareness for diabetes and supporting Joslin Diabetes Center, the world’s preeminent diabetes research and care organization, located right here in Boston!

Participating restaurants include: Antico Forno, Aria Trattoria, Bricco, Lucca, Lucia, Strega, Taranta, Terramia Ristorante, and Tresca.  You can feel better about stickingto your New Year’s resolution of eating mindfully, as this year’s prix fixe menus will feature at least one “diabetes-friendly” dish;  Joslin is spearheading an effort for restaurants to add a “DF” symbol for “diabetes-friendly” next to the appropriate dishes on menus, to make dining out choices easier for those living with diabetes. DF dishes are focused on including lean protein or fish, non-starchy vegetables and are generally low in carbohydrates and cholesterol – a favorable diet for us all!

Founded in 2005 by Carla Agrippino Gomes, owner of Antico Forno and Terramia, CityFeast has raised nearly $280,000 for Joslin Diabetes Center’s High Hopes Fund. Carla started this fundraiser in the North End of Boston with her restaurants and several others as a way to support Joslin Diabetes Center and the life-saving care her son receives since being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 24 years ago.

Tickets to CityFeast include a five-course dinner with wine pairings at one of the participating restaurants; proceeds will benefit Joslin Diabetes Center’s High Hopes Fund, which supports the Center’s greatest needs in research, education and clinical care.

Tickets are priced at $150 each, of which $100 is tax deductible. Due to high demand, reservations are limited, and will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
