Mental Health Awareness

During the month of May, many people dedicate their time to helping spread Mental Health Awareness. Last week, Kristen Bell the beautiful, contagiously bubbly actress, spoke out about inner battles she has faced over the years with depression and anxiety. Were you as shocked as we were?! If https://www.nami.org/you missed the interview, you can watch it here.

Mental Health AwarenessBell recalled being a young girl and experiencing feelings of anxiety and depression, too often to be ignored. She spoke about the gratitude she had for her mother allowing her to not feel shame in these feelings and supporting her to ask for help. For this mental health awareness month, Bell wants to relay this message for anyone facing a mental health issue, that there’s absolutely no shame in asking for help.

Finding Help for Yourself and/or Others:

There are plenty of services available to those who wish or need to seek help. Different services include a place for people to talk in groups or one-on-one as well as longer programs if needed. Some of the facilities that are available include the Massachusetts Association for Mental Health a local organization as well as national groups such as the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI). For those who are interested in learning more you can visit their websites NAMI or here.

This month is a great reminder to be kind and caring to those around us. Eliminate the stigmas, surround yourself with good people and remember the saying we have all heard before, “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.”
