The beginning of June marks the start of a great time of year in New England. The weather is finally bearable, school is almost out, summer is just around the corner, and baseball season is in full swing. Catching a baseball game is on everybody’s summer bucket list, but for those who don’t want to break the bank, the Franciscan Hospital for Children and the Travis Roy Foundation have the perfect solution, as they have joined forces once again to host the 5th annual Boston WIFFLE Ball Challenge.
This fun and family-friendly community event is free for spectators to attend and will take place at Boston University’s New Balance Field on Saturday, June 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All are welcome to come cheer on the teams and meet special guests like former Red Sox player Tim Wakefield, comedian Lenny Clarke, local radio personalities and more! The day also features a raffle with many one-of-a kind prizes and sports memorabilia, as well as numerous activities for kids of all ages.
The WIFFLE Ball Challenge is guaranteed to be enjoyable for the whole family, but it will provide so much more than just a free day of sun, fun and WIFFLE ball. The funds raised as a result of this tournament will help aid and support the Travis Roy Foundation and Franciscan Hospital for Children, two amazing organizations that are filled with people who devote their lives to helping others. The Travis Roy Foundation is committed to enhancing the lives of individuals that have suffered spinal cord injuries and works to provide them with adaptive equipment that allows them to be as independent as possible. They are also working to increase funding for research that would help find a cure for spinal cord injuries. Franciscan Hospital for Children, located in Brighton, MA, is the leading pediatric rehabilitation center in New England. The hospital offers medical, behavioral, and educational services for children with complex issues requiring interdisciplinary care. Franciscan’s staff works tirelessly to provide the highest quality care to every patient they service.
Wonderful events like The WIFFLE Ball Challenge, with the help of many friends, sponsors, and donors, help organizations like these two thrive. The funds raised during the WIFFLE ball tournament will benefit the individuals that both organizations help in countless ways. So when you want to get your baseball fix this June, why not head down to Nickerson Field? Spend your Saturday cheering on WIFFLE ball games and helping others. Now, that’s hitting one out of the park!
