Jury Foreman in Karen Read’s Trial Tells Fisher Students There was No ‘Aha’ Moment

It was the trial that captivated the nation, and in the end, a Norfolk County jury found that Karen Read did not kill her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, by hitting him with her SUV. Earlier this month, Regan Communications arranged for the foreman of the jury that acquitted Read of murder, to explain the verdict at a gathering at Fisher College in Boston. “During the trial I just was waiting and looking for that ‘aha moment’ and there was none to make her guilty at all,” Charlie DeLoach, who served as juror number one in Read’s retrial, said. DeLoach told Fisher students that deliberations were respectful and deliberate, the jury did its job to weigh all the key evidence. “I was open-minded, I was willing to listen to both sides, if she hit him or if there is corruption, and the corruption outweighed her hitting him with the car,” he said.
