Late November brings thoughts of Thanksgiving, the approaching end of autumn, and Christmas and the other holidays to come. For Miles For Military, the non-profit founded in 2024 that provides flights home to junior enlisted service members who otherwise couldn’t afford them, the time of year brings a flurry of activity. The organization, which pays for the flights in return for service members’ donating volunteer hours to charities of their choosing, will fly several hundred soldiers, sailors, Marines, and airmen home for leave this holiday season. Among those whom Miles For Military flew home just before Thanksgiving were US Navy Seaman Kermithe Joseph, who is stationed at United States Fleet Activities in Japan (the Navy’s largest overseas installation) and had not seen her family in Boston in nearly two years, and Airman 1st Class Victoria Sanders, who is stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio and flew into Baltimore to spend the holiday with her family. Maureen Byrne, a military mom who founded the organization after learning that many of her son’s fellow Marines could not afford to fly home when they got leave, called it “extremely rewarding to be able to help them get home for moments that matter.” And we at Regan Communications find it just as rewarding to help Miles For Military in that mission.
