Summer has officially begun and being someone who couldn’t hate the heat more, it is no surprise that summer is not my favorite season. There is one thing that makes me sweat even more than the summer sun in New York City, the thought of bikini season! Summer time means fitness time and here in New York our team is in full swing talking about summer fitness stories for our fitness and wellness clients.
As summer started, so did the phenomenon that took over the Internet: The Dad Bod. What is the Dad Bod? The Dad Bod is a way to describe the figure of a man who works out occasionally but also eats 6 slices of pizza occasionally. An example of the Dad Bod: Leonardo DeCaprio. Sure Leo might have a dad bod and is still able to walk down the beaches of the South of France with a model in arm, but for most of our NYC dads, that’s not the case. We knew that this Father’s Day we could help all the men out there with advice on how to get rid of those Dad Bods in time for summer. Our team worked on securing a segment on Fox & Friends for Father’s Day with New York Sports Clubs master trainer Ken Szekretar. Ken led some pretty strong NYC Dad’s and their babies through a workout routine that included their kids! I mean what’s cuter than dads lunging and squatting while holding babies?
As Dads were busy working off those extra beers, we were busy planning for National Swim A Lap Day on June 24th. New York Sports Clubs will be opening their 63rd street regulation size pool to the media to allow for a trainer to teach proper lap techniques, performance drills, and water safety. Swimming is not only a savior during the summer heat but also an incredible workout! Why not kill two birds with one stone this summer by swimming a few laps at any NYSC location to cool down from the summer heat.
As the summer unfolds, we head down to the beach for The Fourth of July and National Bikini Day on July 5th, so hit the mall for that perfect two piece. It’s heating up, summer is here and there is always a fitness media angle to rock!
