Not Afraid to go in the Water

Let’s be honest. In any job, some assignments are more fun than others. Some days are all zoom meetings and spreadsheet entries. And other days you get to see sharks.

World-famous wildlife biologist Forrest Galante has been doing a lot of the latter, and we have been the lucky ones publicizing his efforts. Galante has spent the past few weeks filming an episode for Discovery Channel’s Shark Week, which begins Sunday night. He dove with giant but gentle basking sharks in the waters off Cape Cod, Great Whites off the central California coast, little swellsharks in the waters around southern California’s Channel Islands, blacktips in the Gulf of Mexico, bonnetheads off the Texas coast, and sawfish (actually a member of the rays and skates family) in Florida waters.  The episode Galante filmed, “Alien Sharks: Untamed America,” showcases the diversity of shark species found off America’s shores. It airs Wednesday, July 29, at 10 p.m. eastern. We were thrilled to interest People magazine in a piece on Forrest’s shark exploration. Check it out while you’re waiting for Shark Week to start.
