Mariellen Burns, Chief Strategy Officer/News, Politics & Crisis Management
Mariellen has more than 20 years’ experience in media, public relations, and crisis management. As Regan’s Chief Strategy Officer, she assists all teams in strategically approaching client needs, creating newsworthy connections or angles to a business or political story, and overseeing management of existing or potential crisis situations for regional and national clients. Mariellen spent 13 years in the Boston market as a television news reporter and anchor, covering local and national stories including the Oklahoma City Bombing; her coverage of a bus crashing into the Charles River won an Emmy. She has extensive experience in radio news as a talk host and as an expert commentator. Mariellen spent several years managing high-volume communications director posts for the Boston Police Department, and Massachusetts Turnpike Authority/Central Artery Tunnel Project. She co-chaired the public affairs sub-committee with her counterpart at the United States Secret Service for the 2004 Democratic National Convention, the first national convention post- 9/11, and established the Joint Information Center (JIC) for the event. She also assisted in crafting the after-action report, which became a blueprint for future conventions. She’s done extensive media training for CEOs, political candidates, law enforcement personnel, and hospitality industry professionals. She is personally involved with several non-profits: S.C.O.R.E. – Boston’s Urban Hockey Initiative since 1995; AccesSportAmerica, and Christmas in the City.
William J. (BJ) Finnell, General Manager of Administration
As General Manager of Administration, B.J. supervises our Team Leaders to ensure that we are meeting all of our clients’ public relations needs. He also works closely with other senior managers to grow existing business and identify new business opportunities.
B.J. brings a wealth of broadcasting experience to Regan. Before joining the firm in October 2010, B.J served for two years as News Director at WLNE-TV, the ABC affiliate in Providence, Rhode Island. In that position he oversaw operations for the Rhode Island News Channel, a 24-hour local news channel.
He was also Vice President and News Director at WJAR-TV, the NBC affiliate in Providence, and at WVIT-TV, the NBC affiliate in Hartford, CT. B.J. is a graduate of the University of Connecticut.
Julie Kahn, Executive Vice President/Strategy, Sports & Media
Julie comes to Regan from Entercom Boston, where she spent the past 13 of her 34 years in radio from Chicago to San Francisco to Boston, overseeing seven stations, including WEEI and WAAF-FM and serving as Senior Vice President for New England. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Positive Coaching Alliance, is a trustee for Suffolk University and the Sports Museum of New England and sits on the Boston Chapter Board of the National Sports Marketing Network. Julie has been recognized as one of the “Best Managers in Radio” and one of the “50 Most Influential Women in Radio” by Radio Ink Magazine, as well as one of the “100 People Who Run This Town” and one of the “50 Most Powerful Women in Boston” by Boston Magazine. While at Entercom, the New England market stations she oversaw raised over $25 million for the Jimmy Fund, the Greater Boston Food Bank and the Franciscan Hospital for Children, and many other organizations. She has a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Michigan and a combined JD/M.B.A. from Northwestern University and has completed executive education programs at both the Harvard Business School and the MIT/Sloan School of Management.
Thomas Cole, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer
Tom Cole is a Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Regan Communications Group. He directs the firm’s public affairs and business development, as well as marketing and advertising services. Prior to joining Regan, he was director of advertising and marketing for the Massachusetts State Lottery. He also served as an executive with the Boston office of Cassidy & Associates, a Washington, DC-based lobbying and public affairs firm. Tom also serves as a Corporator at Eastern Bank in Lynn, MA.
Casey Sherman, General Manager of Client Services
Casey Sherman is an award-winning journalist and bestselling author of six books including The Finest Hours (now in development for Walt Disney Pictures). As President of Regan Marketing, he works with our clients to create impactful messaging campaigns to enhance their brands. He also provides our clients with winning proactive crisis management plans and has managed many of Boston’s signature events including the world premiere of National Geographic Channel’s Wicked Tuna and the premiere of the award-winning documentary Knuckleball.
Casey managed numerous public relations campaigns featuring high-profile celebrities including Mark Wahlberg, Ed Burns, Bobby Orr, Wes Welker, Shaquille O’Neal, and Rory McIlroy. He is a former television producer for CBS News and has also appeared as a featured guest on The Today Show, FOX News, The FOX Business Network, MSNBC, CNN, The CBS Evening News, ABC World News Tonight, America's Most Wanted, The View, The History Channel, Discovery, The National Geographic Channel, and Dateline NBC.
Casey Sherman is a sought after lecturer. He delivered the keynote speech at the U.S. Coast Guard's Annual Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC, and was a featured speaker at the National Press Club, The Wilbur Theatre, The Somerville Theatre and the Boston Public Library.
